WHEN TO TEACH YOUR CHILD FROM HOME

Today’s Child faces so many hurdles within a school system . Even though the “No Child Left Behind” is on the bumper of many School Teachers’ and Officials’ automobiles , your child still has a likelihood of being left behind. If the child cannot keep up , then the only person that will be able to help him is a Parent.

Parents wear many hats. They are cheerleaders , coaches, mentors , friends, and sometimes they must assume the role as Academic Teacher by choosing to Homeschool their child. This is not a decision to make quickly and take lightly. It is tough. If you and your spouse think you can share the responsibility but you both work full time , think again. You may be able to do it , but it is tough.

If you choose to Homeschool , if at all possible , try to register through the City or County in which you live rather than with a Private Organization or through a Christian School . If you believe that your child may eventually re-enter public schools , then you should most definitely keep him in the system. It makes for a speedier and quicker re-entry into the system.

If you  choose to go through the School Board in the county where you live , they will likely give you a list of things you are required to provide the Board with at the end of the year , such as testing required or a form to document how many hours you teach your child per day , and other important information.

Just because you choose to home school doesn’t mean your child cannot participate in activities with other children. More and more parents are teaching their children from home so therefore, more activities and sports programs are becoming available through Homeschool  Associations.

Don’t worry about finding curriculum , there are many avenues that you can take to find what you need to start teaching your child from home. You will find many huge book store chains now either carry curriculum or they have enough books that are workbook-formatted and fall within the curriculum that you need for your child’s current grade level. Check with Bookstore Giants like Barnes and Noble and Books-a –Million.

If you don’t find what you are looking for there , check out Christian Book Stores and your local Library. You can also go online and find a lot of books that you can order through the internet. Take the time to become informed before you jump right in and start to teach your child from home. Find out what is working for other Homeschool Families. What curriculum did they find most user friendly? Homeschooling parents love to talk about what works for them, and since you’re the new kid on the block , open up your ears and listen to what they have to say.

Try to set a schedule that everyone can live with but remember if Life Happens and you have to deviate from it , big deal , that’s just the luxury of Home schooling
